AI search engine accuracy
AI search engines often give cited answers that are partly or fully wrong. A 2025 Tow Center test found that more than 60 percent of answers across eight tools were wrong, and the tools rarely signalled doubt. Judge an AI search engine by how easily you can verify its claims, not by how confident it sounds.

A citation in an AI search answer is a link to the page the tool says it used. It is not proof that the claim is correct. Some cited claims are supported only in part, and some links are fabricated or point to copies. Click through, find the supporting sentence, and check the date before you rely on the answer.
