Index and answers
Brave Search AI answers appear alongside regular results and cite the pages they draw on. They run on Brave's own index, which Brave says holds about 20 billion pages, and not on Google or Bing results. You.com is a consumer AI search and chat assistant that mixes several AI models, with a Research mode for longer cited reports.
The difference is the index and the model choice. Brave gives you one answer layer over its own search. You.com gives you a choice of models and a deeper report format.
Citations and accuracy
Brave says grounding reduces made-up answers but does not guarantee accuracy, and it says only a fourth to a third of queries suit an answer format. Brave reports a SimpleQA score for its Ask Brave feature, which is self-reported and has an unconfirmed test date.
For You.com, a March 2026 third-party review found some Research citations pointed to general news rather than primary texts, and most of its accuracy figures come from its own benchmarks. We found no independent accuracy audit for either tool, so check sources on questions you know.
Plans and API
Brave's answers on search.brave.com are free for consumers on desktop and mobile, and Brave says it may add a paid tier later with no price set. Its Answers API costs $4 per 1,000 requests plus $5 per million tokens, with $5 of free credit each month.
You.com's consumer plan prices are hard to confirm, because sources conflict. Its developer pricing lists Web Search at $5 per 1,000 calls, with a free tier of 100 queries a day through its MCP server.
