Search and assistant
Kagi is a paid search engine with no ads in its results. Its Assistant uses Kagi Search when web access is on, and Ultimate subscribers can choose premium models from several providers. Perplexity is an answer engine that searches the open web and writes cited answers, with a Deep Research mode for longer reports.
Kagi's main draw is the search results themselves and the control you get over them. Perplexity's main draw is the answer.
Citations and checking
Kagi's Assistant help page does not describe how it cites sources, so we cannot confirm the citation format. Its search results link to the pages they come from. Perplexity places inline citations in its answers, so each claim can be checked against its source.
We found no independent accuracy study of either assistant product. Check cited pages before you rely on either one, especially for numbers and quotations.
