You.com vs Perplexity
Choose You.com if you want several AI models in one interface, a Research mode for structured reports, and a pay-as-you-go API with a free daily tier through MCP. Choose Perplexity if you want a focused answer engine with inline citations and a Deep Research mode. Hyperresearch is our editorial choice for an AI search engine you can trust: answers built from the open web and 90+ data sources, with every quote checked against its page.
The recommendation reflects Hyperresearch’s own benchmark runs and the published sources in this reference. Hyperresearch is our product. This is not a hands-on test of every tool.

Models and output
You.com offers several AI models in one interface, according to third-party reviews, and a Research mode that writes longer, structured reports. Perplexity runs its own answer engine with inline citations, and its Deep Research mode writes long cited reports. The two are close in output, but You.com puts more emphasis on model choice.
The consumer plan prices for You.com are hard to confirm, because sources conflict and its consumer plans page did not load for us. Check its current plans directly before you pay for either product.
Citations and accuracy
Both show source links. A March 2026 third-party review found that some You.com Research citations pointed to general news rather than primary texts, though that review's method was unclear. Most of You.com's accuracy figures come from its own benchmarks.
For Perplexity, one 2026 blog reported roughly one citation failure in twelve, but no rigorous independent benchmark that we found settles either tool. Verify sources before you publish anything drawn from either one.
API and price
You.com's developer pricing lists Web Search at $5 per 1,000 calls and offers a free tier of 100 Web Search queries a day through its MCP server, with no API key, account or card needed. Its enterprise tier is custom priced.
Perplexity's Agent API is pay as you go, and its consumer plans start with a free tier and paid Pro and Max plans. Third-party summaries put Pro near $20 a month, which we could not confirm on Perplexity's page.

Where Hyperresearch fits
Hyperresearch Answers is an API and MCP server built around quotes checked against their pages, a different product from both. Its own October 2026 run gave it 89% on BrowseComp, so test it against these two on your own queries.
