Microsoft Copilot in Best AI Search Engine

Answer in brief

Microsoft's AI assistant. Its free version runs a web search for current questions and writes an answer, and it is available on the web, in apps and in Edge. Paid individual access now runs through Microsoft 365 Premium.

Best for

Free cited web answers inside Microsoft apps and Edge

Pricing

Free Copilot is available at no cost on the web, in apps and in Edge, with features varying by region. Microsoft 365 Premium is listed at $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year for individuals, according to third-party reports, and it replaced the standalone Copilot Pro plan for new buyers. Individual plans have usage limits tied to AI credits, and the free tier does not state a fixed cap.

What it covers

Microsoft's support page says the free version gives real-time answers from web search, and that business Copilot Chat is grounded on the web. Microsoft links to separate documents on how web search data is handled. Third-party guides say consumer search draws on Bing.

Citations and verification

Microsoft's support page does not say whether answers show citations. Third-party guides describe numbered, clickable source links, but that is not confirmed by Microsoft.

API

The developer route is Grounding with Bing through Azure, not the consumer Copilot app. One third-party comparison from August 2026 lists it at $14 per 1,000 transactions and says Microsoft requires responses to keep citations and a Bing query link. Confirm on Azure's pricing page.
